16 Sep Rise of The ‘Selfie’ Sees Rise of No Incision Ear Correction
With the rise of digital imagery, advent of the selfie generation and sharing via social media, comes a growing awareness of self-image and the way we look on-camera.
Several studies suggest this sudden amplified interest in self-exposure has triggered a desire to explore different ways to improve our appearance on and off-camera, using everything from Instagram filters to cosmetic procedures.
Sydney cosmetic surgeon, Dr Longin Zurek, has developed a no-incision, non-invasive ear correction technique to correct prominent ears and increase self-confidence.
Prominent or protruding ears can have significant aesthetic and psychological implications both short-term and long-term, particularly for this generation who live in a world increasingly preoccupied with self-image.
While the majority of ear correction procedures (otoplasty) are based on removal of skin from behind the ear, weakening of the cartilage, incision of the cartilage or excision of the cartilage, for the past 12 years Dr Zurek has been performing his unique technique – which does not involve any cutting or incisions.
Dr Zurek’s no incision otoplasty uses special sutures, which are “woven” into the ear under the skin through small punctures. The sutures remain permanently and are not visible or palpable after a short healing time.
Performed under local anaesthetic and oral sedation (if required), Dr Zurek’s procedure takes around one to two hours, with minimal downtime (a few days only).
