This procedure is aimed at correcting disproportionately large upper arms, due to excess fat or sagging due to loose skin.
The method preferred by Dr Zurek is performed under tumescent anaesthetic and sedation. It involves careful planning, followed by thorough and precise removal of fat by liposculpture and then excision of loose skin only. This ensures the preservation of important structures including nerves, blood and lymphatic vessels and therefore is the safest technique of brachioplasty.
The incision line is along the inner arm, from the armpit to just above the elbow, resulting in a scar which is concealed when the arm is down beside the body.
Most patients return to work after 1 week.
A support garment is worn to compress and support the upper arms for approximately 2 weeks.
