ENQUIRE TODAY

In recent years there has been growing popularity in cosmetic surgery for the Asian face. Most Asian patients desire very subtle changes, that improve facial balance and harmony whilst maintaining their ethnic identity.

“Westernisation” procedures which were popular a few decades ago are currently very seldom requested by patients and Dr Zurek believes they should be abandoned.

Traditionally there have been cultural prejudice against cosmetic surgery in Asia, however, in recent years cosmetic surgery is not only being accepted but also increasingly being sought after.

Asian Blepharoplasty

The eyes are the most distinguishing feature of the Asian face.

At least 50% of East Asians demonstrate a “single eyelid”, this term is because there is an absence of an eyelid fold and the lid drapes like a single “curtain” over the eyeball. Surgical creation of an eyelid groove divides the single eyelid into two segments producing a double eyelid.

Some Asian patients with natural double eyelids have excessive eyelid skin and orbital fat and may desire surgical enhancement of the eyelids.

Management of changes due to ageing in the upper eyelid.

Epicanthal fold (web like structure in the corner of the eye) is present in approximately 90% of east asians. It is associated with diminished length of the eyes appearance as well as producing an undesirable impression of a wider nose.

Asian Rhinoplasty

Augmentation Rhinoplasty also known as “nose lift” is one of the most frequently requested cosmetic procedures in Asia as well as other parts of the world with large Asian population. In asian cultures a high, narrow nasal bridge is a desirable facial feature.

Non biologic material such as silicone remains the most common material to augment the nasal bridge.

Alar-Base Reduction

Wide nostrils from the frontal view are not only considered to be unaesthetic but also may be deemed to be a sign of bad fortune. Asian patients who follow this cultural folk law that very wide nostrils represent a portal through which money is drained out.

In contra distinction, a high nasal bridge and prominent nose signify wealth and wisdom.

Usual recovery time for augmentation Rhinoplasty is several weeks, however alar-base reduction which requires external incision may require a longer period of time.

Rejuvenation of Asian Face and Neck

Differences between asian and caucasian face and necks include skin thickness, fat accumulation and bony structure.

Asian skin tends to be thicker and the face and neck accumulates more fat during the ageing process. Prominent cheek bone with flattening of the mid face and a wide jawbone generate a more square configuration. A combination of heavier soft tissue and flat facial bones, creates less resistance to gravity forces with aging.

The current tendency in cosmetic surgery is toward less invasive procedures which offer short recovery and increased safety. Procedures currently used for facial rejuvenation include:-

  • SAFE (S-Access Facial Elevation)
  • AGE (Anti Gravity Elevation) Filament, face lift without incision.
  • Liposculpture of the neck and jowls.
  • Micro fat grafting
  • Removal of buccal fat pad, to reduce fullness in the cheeks.
